Name That Quad! - Part III

If you are new to the "Name That Quad Mini-Series" check out
Part I
and
Part II
before reading this post.

2 down 2 to go! On to Baby C and Baby D:

CLARK THOMAS

Clark - One of our first names that made the list. We came up with Clark in the early days of marriage. It has several significant ties as well. It's Brad's Grandma's Maiden Name, the last name of a couple who really had a positive impact on Brad's life who have passed away, and we also respect the CBS Basketball Commentator/Former Pacer, Clark Kellogg. (March Madness is just around the corner! Go Hoosiers and Bulldogs!)
Meaning: Enlightened Spirit
James 3:17 "But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

Thomas- Brad's Dad's Name
Meaning: Divinely Preserved
Proverbs 2:11 "Discretion will guard you, understanding will watch over you."

Nicknames: Clarkaroo, Clarkers, Superman, Clarkasboard, Clarkster, Clark Man, Clark-A-Doodle-Doo, Clarky, CT, Buddy

ISAAC EDWARD

Isaac - I used to say, "If God gives me a boy someday, I hope his name is Isaac." (I had no idea that He would give me FOUR!)
Meaning: Child of Promise, Laughter
Genesis 21:6 "And Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me"."

Edward - My Dad's Name
Meaning: Guardian of Happiness
Psalm 5:11 "But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you."

Nicknames: I-Sack, Izzy, Izeriah, I-Man, Chunk, I-Zeek, Smiles, Thighzaac, Baby, Buddy

So much for our "No Nicknames Rule"!

Oh and here's the BONUS Brad's name means "Abundant Provider" and Jennifer means "Trusting". How fitting! =)

Make sure you check out all the original name stories in the comment section of this post. You all have chosen such meaningful, significant names!

AND if you still want to chat about this topic leave a comment about your favorite NICKNAMES either for yourself or for your kiddos. Can anyone guess my nickname from Kindergarten thru College?

Name That Quad! - Part Deux

Your comments in the Part One post shows that every name has a story! Thanks for sharing your name origins with us - I've enjoyed these posts!

So last post I shared the HOW....now on to each individual name and story to go with it - the WHO! (I'll be using some quotes from a sweet friend, Kathy, who created a handmade card for us shortly after the birth of our boys with their names, meanings, and a verse to compliment the meaning. I'm not sure what name book she used, so hopefully if she's reading she'll leave a comment revealing her source.)

Let me preface this by saying that Brad and I had a few Naming Rules. These were simply personal preferences. I am not in any way slamming your kids names if they fit into any of these criteria....=)

1. They couldn't rhyme or be "sing-song cute".
2. They needed to be non-trendy; Traditional, yet distinct.
3. They needed to be names that were complete in itself - not needing to be shortened to a nickname (This rule was obviously meant to be broken...keep reading!)
4. They (at least some of them) needed to have a family link.
5. They couldn't rhyme with "Murray"....That eliminated furry, hurry, and Suri!

In Birth Order:

HENRY SAMUEL

Henry - A name we both agreed on and since Henry was only 2 lbs. 12 oz. "Isaac" just didn't fit him!
Meaning: Trusted
Psalm 37:23 "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way."

Samuel - We really liked the Biblical heritage of Samuel as well as the meaning of the name (Check out I Samuel Chapter 1)
Meaning: God heard
I Samuel 1:20 "Hannah gave birth to a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, "Because I have asked him of the Lord."

Nicknames: H-Sam, Henry Dickory Dock, Hen, HEN-ERR-EEE (3 syllables like my TX Friend Pam says it), Heners, Show Boat, Small Fry, 2-12, Buddy

BROOKS LAYTON

Brooks - A name that we threw out there and then ended up falling in love with
Meaning: Refreshed
Zechariah 2:10 "Sing for joy and be glad O daughter of Zion; for behold I am coming and I will dwell in your midst."

Layton - A family name on my mom's side, but mostly chosen because we just liked it
Meaning: From the Meadow Land =)
Psalm 23:1-2 "The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters."

Nicknames: Brooksy, Brooks A Million, Little b, Brooksalufigus, Stinky (with all my affection), Buddy

Clark Thomas and Isaac Edward will be explained in detail tomorrow. It's getting late and lengthy....On To Part 3 Tomorrow!

AND While You're Waiting on Me to Return You can Discuss the Meaning of Your Name (or your baby(ies)) and Any Naming Rules You had/have for Your Kids!

Name That Quad! - Part 1

First of all only 1 of you guessed correctly (although Cassie has a somewhat unfair advantage since she lives there!)on our little mystery weekend destination. It was Louisville! I highly recommend for their southern hospitality, historic atmosphere, and good eats! Now back to the post....

After posting the q&a post about a month ago I was asked (again) about how we came up with the names for the boys. It's a question we are frequently asked as many can't imagine coming up with 8 NAMES, when they struggled to come up with even ONE! (In fact it's even on on FAQ Page for St. Vincent's Tiny Successes.) In all of the commotion of the NICU, we somehow left out this minor detail after the boys were born....whoops! Let me dedicate this post to explaining that process...

Brad and I sat down one night, I believe around 18 wks. and wrote down our short list of names we liked and then did some "research" to find other names to consider. Believe it or not we came up with 9 names in about 40 minutes! (We had Henry's middle name narrowed down to 2.) In reality, I think it was somewhat easier to come up with 4 babies names than just one....we didn't have to completely agree on the "ultimate name" and were more willing to compromise. Plus, I was a speech therapist in the schools so I had a pretty extensive list of what our boys wouldn't be named. =)

We had 4 names picked out, but we didn't assign them to a certain baby in my belly because they moved around too much to keep track of....We didn't want them to come out with an identity crisis on top of being quadruplets! HA! However, we somewhat had a sense of who would be named who. After the boys were born, (pretty fussy on these details due to "The Mag" and extreme blood loss) Brad brought me pictures of the boys and we named them based on the pictures.

Now I couldn't imagine them any other name than Henry Samuel, Brooks Layton, Clark Thomas, or Isaac Edward!

So that's HOW they were named, check back shortly for Part 2......

Also, I'd love to hear experiences of how you named YOUR baby(ies)....so leave me a comment telling your story or better yet BLOG about it and let us know so we can check it out!
