The Length a Quadruplet Brother Goes To Get Some One On One Attention

You might have caught that Isaac spent the wee hours of the morning in the ER with his daddy.  Apparently, he was in desperate need of some one on one time. So much for a plain ole boring fever. 

Shortly after we tucked him into to bed for the night he woke up in a panic, gasping for air.  It was obvious that his airway was constricted, and so we immediately administered a breathing treatment (only the 2nd one he’s ever had one in his life) and he asked to return to bed.  Not an hour passed, before he awoke again, even more upset and having an even more difficult time breathing.  Although he wasn’t coughing much, he had the classic seal bark and his airway sounded textbook strider.  He calmed down with in the steamy bathroom, but we didn’t feel comfortable putting him back to bed. 

Brad took the little dude to the ER while mama stayed back with the other three sickies. Just look at the poor little pitiful dude:

They were seen in a flash and had awesome care at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.  Can’t say enough about that special facility.  So thankful to have great care so close.

After getting his fever down some and getting a steroid treatment he was feeling more like the little Isaac we all know and love:

Hopefully we’ll ALL be on the mend soon. 

We are soooo grateful for your prayers not only for our little sickies, but for keeping Brad’s family in your thoughts and prayers as well.

It Takes Two, Baby

While I was out grocerying (yes, it's a verb) a few nights ago the coolest thing happened between Isaac and Clark.  Here's Brad's account of how it happened:

"Brooks and Henry were on my lap reading a book. Usually, the other two would be hounding me to try to fit all four of their growing rear ends on my lap, but Isaac and Clark were already occupied with something. When I looked up to see what they were doing, my jaw about hit the floor. A father's dreams were coming true right in front of my eyes.  I watched them do this for a solid 5 minutes in amazement. Then it hit me to grab the camera and try to attempt to catch it as best as possible with two wiggle worms in my lap.  Here's the result:"

 

That's reality at its best!  Interrupted or not, it was a highlight of how brothers can be buddies and a reminder to be thankful that they have each other as God-given playmates.

March Madness: A Dream is Born

I've been saving this video for the commencement of March Madness, it's a holiday in itself in these parts.. Isaac is developing a love for the game, even at 2.  He LOVES to shoot hoops and specializes in last second prayers.  =)  We're first time parents so we're not sure if this is "normal" for his age, but it's sure a crowd pleaser!

Just in Case...(Giveaway)

Yesterday evening, I was getting ready to head out for my grocery run.  Brad was working on getting the boys outside for some backyard fun - which involved changing some "stinkies" before putting on their shoes. THANK HEAVENS for a husband who is willing to share the "load" in the diaper department. =) Before gathering my coupons, list, and purse, I decided to help speed up the "getting out the door" process by helping with the boys' shoes.  "Timmy" (name changed to protect the innocent) hopped up onto my lap, in which I quickly discovered there was yet ANOTHER stinky to be changed.  Not to be too descriptive, but it was one of those smells that confirmed that this was going to be a bad one.  I held my breath, finished putting on his shoes, and lifted him off my lap to find out the stinky had not stayed IN the diaper, but rather had gotten all over his backside and my grocery getup. Needless to say, getting out the door, doesn't always go as planned.

At the end of the night, when all was but forgotten, we snuck in to tell our slumbering boys goodnight. We were greeted by this sight:

Isaac must have wanted to have an extra diaper (or 22) handy just in case he had a diaper disaster in the night. Way to be prepared, little buddy!

It's hours until Thanksgiving, little buddy, and you're right up there on the top of my list (with your brothers and daddy, of course) of blessings that I'm thankful for this season.  Isaac, you are our sunshine.  You're the source of many of my laughs through the day.  I love your content spirit and how you busy yourself with books, puzzles, animals, or your favorite toy "collection" of the day.  I love how your whole face smiles when daddy comes home from work, or when mama picks you up. I love how your my baby by minutes, but nevertheless, my baby.  Our hearts are filled with thankfulness for you, Isaac!

3 Outta 4...

If you guessed Isaac, give yourself a little pat on the head. The boy is walking all over the place. He had only walked a few steps between Brad and I and then all of the sudden he starts walking around the room, just like this...




Clark is on his way to his own walking post...just a matter of time. They are 15 months adjusted age (they were 2 month early preemies), so they are within the range of "normal" for developmental milestones. We are just ecstatic to see them all doing so amazingly well. God has blessed us beyond our imaginations.

My Son Isaac


What you see above is one of my favorite things about Isaac, his sweet, uplifting smile. He treats us with this smile every single day, almost all day. God has given him such a content little spirit. Isaac can lay in one place and play with one toy for 30 minutes at a time. He was the last one of the boys to learn to crawl, and I am convinced that it had very little to do with ability. He just had no reason to move, he was content right where he was. He still loves to lay on his back and play with a toy, or even just his fingers and toes for long periods of time. Isaac is the only child I have ever seen whom you can actually hear smiling. He makes a funny little noise as he breaths when he is smiling, and that noise is one of my favorite things to hear in the world.

Isaac was first to come home from the hospital, along with Brooks. My first really amazing experience with Isaac came on his third day of life. When I arrived in the NICU that day, Isaac’s nurse told me that they had just removed him from the ventilator. They were pretty sure that he was ready, but the next few hours would tell for sure. The only problem was, Isaac was very upset and she said he really needed to settle down soon, or he would wear himself out. If he used up all of his energy on crying, he would not have the strength to continue to breath on his own.

Our nurse suggested that I put my hand under his head and slightly rock his little head back and forth in an attempt to comfort him. She had already tried, but she thought I might have more success since I was his dad. I reached into his isolette and gently lifted his head, placing it in the palm of my hand. I was amazed, his head was slightly larger than a tennis ball! As I began to rock his head, he immediately settled down. It really melted my heart when our nurse told me that she was not able to settle him down, and that he must know that I am his daddy. I have replayed that experience in my head hundreds of times since that day, and it never gets old.

I love this little boy in ways that I cannot describe, but I will do my best. I love the little dimple on one cheek when he smiles, I love the way he opens his mouth wide open when he smiles and squeals, I use to love his 3 chins (I miss those chins!), I love his still chunky thighs, I love his beautiful blue eyes, I love his wispy brown hair, I love that his favorite word is da-da, I love that he rocks himself to sleep each night in his crib on his hands and knees, I love our nightly routine that involves bouncing him on his crib mattress until he squeals, I love that he squeals even before I start in anticipation each night, I love the fact that he cries when I leave him, and smiles when I come home, I love that he gets excited when I hand him his blue ball, even though it is the 200th time, and most of all, I love the fact that God has given me this little boy who has captured my heart the past 15 months and made me love him in ways I didn’t even know was possible.

My son Isaac is amazing. Many times, God uses Isaac to get Jen and I through the most difficult circumstances. No matter how upset Brooks, Clark, and Henry might be, you can almost always count on a smile from Isaac. When we are at our wits end and don’t know how much more we can take, we hear that familiar sound and look up, and there is Isaac, smiling ear to ear.

I am so proud of you Isaac, and it is such a privilege to call you my son, I love you buddy,

The Click Theory....


I'm becoming more convinced in our "Click Theory". Brad and I have had countless conversations and witnessings of our new psychological philosophy. Watch out, we're going deep here! This just may put us in the history books someday, people......

"Regardless of one's encouragement, practice, and modeling of a new skill in which you desire for your infant to obtain or even subject to their own desire, initiative, and rehearsal of the technique, often there exists an overnight phenomenon, in which the skill suddenly becomes mastered in a highly accelerated fashion. Impressive? Exhibit A: Isaac. The boy could care less about crawling a few weeks a go. My chunk-o-love was perfectly content watching the other rascals move about and playing with the toys within his reach. This progressed into rocking on all fours in his crib about a month ago and using his rolling skills to reach things beyond his reach, but no scooting, army crawl, etc. So then last weekend he suddenly gets tired of sitting the bench and decides it's time to move, but poor guy just couldn't get anywhere but frustrated. Keep in mind it does take some serious effort to move 25+ lbs (all muscle, of course). It broke my heart to see him put so much energy in to going no where, but there wasn't really anything I could do....

Fast forward a couple days.... I open the gate to let the monkeys out to put them in bed for their nap. Out comes Henry, Brooks, and Clark in usual fashion and I tuck them one by one in their cribs. I go back to pick up Isaac and just kinda squat in front of him and he takes 5 paces towards me! WHAT???!!!! Unbelievable! I started crying - I was so proud of him.

In less than a weeks time he's become a master crawler, like he's been doing it for months! There's a whole new world for him to explore and he's loving it! When he discovers something for the first time (like the door stop) he squeals, kicks his legs, and gives me this proud smile. This morning he was pulling up on his knees to the exersaucer, so I believe even more "clicks" (and trouble) are in his near future.

He's Down 4 The Count....



There's no flag/touch football for the Murray boys - it's full contact. They love to play "Tackle Me" (as my nephews call it). Moments like these happen almost daily. They are constantly making each other giggle and I cannot express how much we LOVE to hear laughter filling our home. This particular instance, I was putting some laundry in the dryer and I hear this cackling in the other room. I couldn't tell if it was laughter or crying. It was so fun to walk in on my boys (Clark on Isaac) cracking each other up. I never know whether to grab the camera to capture the memory or just to stop and eat up the whole moment. I hope you're glad I caught this one....

The Moment We've All Been Waiting For.......

Henry, you tell them....

"BABAH BAH BAH DAD DAAH DAH!"
That's right, Henry doesn't really speak English yet! Well, the news is we now have 3 cribs up in the nursery! HAHAAAA! Okay, so maybe it's not the BIG news you were anticipating, (and folks, I hope you aren't too disappointed when we reveal the real news, because you have come up with some very clever guesses) but it is BIG news in our house. We've been waiting for 8 months for this! Brad and I were able to take a field trip to BRU this weekend for a crib mattress. Then we had to play the "cram the crib" game, but I'm fairly pleased with the results. I guess I should tell you who got separated and why. Henry and Isaac are now proud owners of their very own cribs! Henry learned how to climb up and over the crib divider, thus waking his brother Isaac by plopping on top of him. Yep, it was time. Clark and Brooks continue to be cuddly and content together, so we'll refrain from cramming another crib into the room for now.

As for the teaser, I can't tell you just yet! I have to speak with some "insiders" before the secret can be revealed. Keep checking in, I've got a few more hints up my sleeve!

He's Gotta Be Around Here Somewhere.....


Has anyone seen a 19lb. cutie, about 26" long? Distictive features include thunder thighs, triple chin, and gigantic smile. Sometimes responds to the name "Isaac". He was last seen "working out" under his gym while his mommy bathed his brother Brooks. Any information should be reported to his parents immediately.

From the Hiccups of Babes

Yesterday after a particularly challenging and tiring day, I guess I had a little "learning moment" from my buddies Isaac and Henry. My brother and I were just having a discussion on Monday about how much kids show you your own sin and selfishness, humble you, and hold you accountable. Well, last night at the nine o'clock feeding (my favorite feeding - it's quiet, the boys are sleepy adorable and Brad and I are able to have actual conversations) Isaac and Henry were finished with their bottles and ready to put down for the night. We had them sitting up (burping position) and facing each other. Well, Henry had the hiccups. Poor guy, he gets them so often and so strong! However, Isaac was getting a kick out of it. He was checkin' Henry out and beaming every time Henry hiccuped. Isaac even started trying to imitate Henry by breathing and kinda jumping on Brad's lap. Henry started smiling from Isaac smiling. It was such a precious moment and I wish there would have been someone there to grab the video camera, but it was a sweet thing that Brad and I got to share. Okay you ready for the corny application point?

There are PLENTY of "hiccups" in life, Jen. Step back and laugh at your crazy day. Don't let the little things get you so down that you miss the amazing things happening around you! Smile at the hiccups.

Profound, theological, deep, book worthy, huh? Hey, they aren't even 5 months old, give them and their mama a break!

We could not do any of this on a daily basis without first of all, Jesus Christ - He gets the glory! Thank you for all that you have done to serve us. Thanks for continuing to read our blog, leaving comments of encouragement, supplying us with diapers and meals, feeding babies, thanks for your patience with us as we learn how to parent these boys, and just your overall willingness to help us. Our hearts are grateful.

Catching You Up....

Alright, so where should I start?????? Let's just start with the boys and what they've been up to.....We have a doctor's appointment today, their 4 month appointment - can you believe it? 4 shots a piece for a grand total of 16 shots and 8 bandaides. Ouch! We will be Tylenoling (yes, it's now a verb) all night. There's a specific prayer request for ya! I'll try to get on and update you on weights. We look forward to that part!

Let's see....the boys are growing and are so much fun each day. Especially now that they are all smiling up a storm, it makes you feel like, "hey, he likes me". Everytime one of them smiles it makes my day over and over. What a blessing! They are sleeping about 9 hours on average a night, with an occasional pacifer run. Whoohooo! It was hard work, but it's now paying off. We are such better parents with a good nights sleep and we are so thankful for some real shut-eye! Their day consists of feedings every 3 hours, playtime, and naptime. They enjoy their bouncy seats, boppies, and gym mostly. Here's a short run down of what they are doing individually.

Henry: Henry has been showing that he still is the oldest by rolling over, (which is quite an accomplishment for a 2 month old (adjusted age)). He loves to do his trick in his bed, while he should be sleeping! Occasionally he rolls into his big brother Isaac, which he isn't too fond of, but we are keeping them in 2 cribs for as long as possible. The crib dividers maybe just around the corner, though. Henry smiles with his whole face - too cute. He has such a sweet personality.

Brooks: Brooks continues to be laid back and go with the flow. He likes to smile most when you're feeding him, which is very cute, but a bit frustrating when you are trying to feed 4 babies! He's been figuring out how to bat at his toys and loves to look at his brothers. He curls up with Clark in the middle of the night - so cute!

Clark: Clark loves to kick (this started way back in wombville). He was definately my most active one in there. He loves to hang upside down by kicking backwards in his boppie. He has a wonderful grin and is quite the happy boy when you wake him up from his nap. He has rolled over once in the boppie and once in his crib - we'll see if he keeps that up! He's also quite the cuddler.

Isaac: Isaac is the talker of the bunch. He makes noise from sleeping to waking. I'm thinking he might be immitating his cousin Jonathan. He loves to smile and coo at you while you talk to him. He just loves to eat! Isaac loves to be held and loved on.

Back to the blog.....sorry for the blog vacation!


Friends and Family:

Hello from the Murray family!

I am sorrry for the delay in adding a new post to the website. As you can imagine, life has changed dramatically for Jen and I. I have found it difficult to find the time to give everyone an update, and when I have had a chance, I have been overwhelmed because of how many things there are to tell you about.

First, Jen and the boys are doing really well. As many of you have seen, Jen is back to her beautiful self, both physically and emotionally, and our boys are growing like weeds already! I cannot beleive that my little preemie sons are now 8-10+ pounds and doing so well. In the past two months, God has shown Jen and I how he intended to provide for us once the boys arrived. We have yet to purchase a single diaper or anything else for the boys. I had no idea how we were going to afford to raise our boys, and I still don't, but God has placed his hand of provision on our family and blessed us in a mighty way through your generosity.

A little about our new family:

Henry:

Henry, who is still our smallest, probably weighs in the vicinity of 8 pounds these days. Since starting life at 2lbs. 12 ounces, he has grown into his skin and is plumping up nicely. I am excited to see Henry's personality reveal itself further in the coming months. He does his own thing and rarely follows his brother's examples. Henry has continued to have miraculous health. Along with his brothers, he has had no illnesses, but he also has continued to grow and eat and give us very little worries about his health.

Brooks:

Brooks has been fun to watch since bringing him home in February. He came home weighing less than four pounds, but now is about nine pounds. As I mentioned in previous postings, Brooks has a hernia that we are watching, but his pediatric urologist seems to think that it will close on its own in the coming months. Please pray that this will happen, then we would be able to avoid surgery. The only other issue that we are dealing with daily with Brooks is his projectile spit-up. Many parents have told us their own stories of babies with this issue. As long as he is gaining weight, this is not a health concern for him. But, I think Jen and I should buy some stock in Resolve cleaner, as Brooks is trying to stain every peice of furniture and carpet we own! :) Brooks is a calm little boy and a pure joy to watch develop.

Clark:

Clark has not looked back since leaving the hospital in March. All of our concerns for him as we brought him home have turned into relief as he has thrived. He truely is our little superman. Clark has joined Brooks in having problems with projectile spit-ups, giving us plenty of messes to clean up. In fact, little Clark decided it was payback time last week. Brooks spit-up right in Clark's face a couple of weeks ago as I left for work. So, a few days ago, while laying in their cribs, Clark nailed Brooks in the face, making them even. Neither were very happy when they were rudely awaked from their sleep by about three ounces of formula in the face coming from their brother! The boys now seem to be getting along fine, please pray that this fight is settled! :)

Isaac:

Isaac is still the tank. Born a whopping four pounds, we are now guessing that he has left 10 pounds in the dust. We go tomorrow for a weight check, so we will know for sure then. Isaac is the most vocal of the Murray Crew. (except for me of course) Isaac makes noise when he is sitting in his bouncy seat, when he is eating, and even when he is sleeping. Jen and I lay awake one night a week or so ago listening to him make a little sigh noise over and over. I worried that he might be weazing or something, so I went in to check on him. After leaning in close, it was clear that it was just his voice, making little ahhh sounds as he exhaled. I have a feeling once he learns to talk, we may never experience silence again! (he gets this honestly from his father)

Well, I have also attached some pictures below. These are not really up to date, but they are as up-to-date as I have on my flash drive. I will post more later and I hope to post a little more often now.

Update in the Madness....

Hey everyone,

Sorry that I have not updated the blog in a while, as you can imagine, life is much different in the Murray house these days! Brooks and Isaac are thriving at home, gaining weight, and sleeping really well so far. We are so thankful to have two of our little boys home with us. It has been a long time coming and we are loving taking care of them. Each day has been a little better and we are getting just enough sleep to get by.

Henry and Clark continue to hang out at the hospital for the time being. Henry is doing great, should be home in the next week or two. Henry is taking most of his food by bottle now, but still requires the occasional tube feed, so he will remain in the hospital until he can stay awake for all eight feeds per day.

Clark is still the one that needs your prayers the most. Clark continues to have digestive problems with his intestines. They had to stop his feedings completely in the last few days due to loops in his intestines that were bloated. The doctors had to place a new IV line to give him fluids in the meantime. They have now put him back on minimum feeds, but are doing a series of tests to try to find the root of his problem. Please pray that Clark would make a final recovery and come home to us as soon as possible.

On a lighter note, we were blessed beyond our imaginations yesterday evening when Jen's parents brought gifts from a shower held for us at Calvary Baptist Church in Danville, Illinois. They filled our living room with gifts yesterday evening for our boys. This is just one more example of the amazing provision that God is providing for our family. Jen and I have not been able to keep up with all of you who have blessed us in various ways in the past few weeks since the boys were home. The cards, gifts, food, love, and prayers that have been offered has been amazing. We are so far behind on thank you notes at this point, that I am absolutely certain that we are going to miss some people in thanking them for their generosity. We do want to thank each of you individually, but for those of you that we miss, thank you very much. We are more thankful than we will ever be able to express to each of you.

-To our parents, siblings, great grandparents, and extended family: Thank you for your never ending support and help.

-The Bible Church of Brownsburg: You are the reason that we know that we will be okay. Your continued support and prayer is priceless. It is exciting to have such a great body of believers to support our boys growth.

-Teachers at Brown Elementary, thank you so much for the money you raised, we could not believe how generous all of you were, thank you!

-Brownsburg Teachers in general, you are an amazing group, thank you for your support.

-Calvary Baptist Church: I have never seen such a faithful group of prayer warriors.

There are so many of you to thank that I could not possible list you all. To all of you who have been so helpful and generous, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, we love you all!

Brooks and Isaac are HOME!!!

Hey all,

Not much time, but I wanted to post a quick message to tell you all that Isaac and Brooks made it home last night at about 8pm. Jen and I decided we wanted to spend our first night home with the boys alone, but after one very fun and exciting night, Jen's mom is coming up this afternoon to give us a hand.

It is an amazing joy to have two of our boys home so quickly, we are praising God for this amazing day in our lives.

Please pray for Henry and Clark. They are doing well so far, but need to begin gaining weight and eating better. They are really having trouble getting them to gain, so we ask you to join us in going to the Great Physician to allow them to begin to grow as needed.
